Helpline Advisor BOLOH (Hong Kong Aspire Helpline)
Barnardo’s is committed to providing ‘Better Outcomes for More Children’. Our children’s services volunteers help the charity to deliver essential services in local communities, providing support to over 300,000 children, young people and their families. This role provides a great opportunity to join our fantastic children’s services and help make a real difference.
Barnardo’s Boloh Helpline provides culturally sensitive signposting, advice and therapeutic support to Black Asian and minority ethnic children, young people and families. The team is comprised of helpline advisors, psychotherapists and administrators. Culturally informed support is offered in 16 different languages.
The service offers 3 tiers of support: Tier 1: supporting young people and families who contact the helpline seeking advice and require emotional support. This support includes signposting to other organisations who can provide services to meet their needs. Tier 2: supporting young people and families where the level of need requires more in-depth support over a longer period. The Helpline Advisor works with the service user to develop a support plan and to address specific issues. Tier 3: providing tier 2 support along with psychotherapy. Six therapy sessions are provided free of charge with the possibility of further sessions if required.
We are specifically looking for Helpline Advisor volunteers to: answer calls via the freephone number; respond to chat room enquiries, and to support service users that are referred to the service by professionals.
Barnardo’s Hong Kong BNO project provides culturally sensitive signposting, advice, practical support and therapeutic support to Hong Kong BNO visa holders across the UK. We are looking for excellent communicators looking to make a difference to the lives of children, young people and their families who are on a Hong Kong BNO visa in the UK. We are looking for Cantonese speaking volunteers who would be happy to support.
