Community Development (Peterborough)
Barnardo’s is committed to providing ‘Better Outcomes for More Children’. Our children’s services volunteers help the charity to deliver essential services in local communities, providing support to over 300,000 children, young people and their families. This role provides a great opportunity to join our fantastic children’s services and help make a real difference.
Barnardo’s Community Development volunteers help develop networks within the local community, building partnerships with organisations such as schools, clubs, societies and groups.
The Food Basket is a community fridge redistributing surplus food from farms and supermarkets within communities. We collect from a local organic farm three times a week as well as ad-hoc collections from other food suppliers. Volunteers will be helping to set up and clean up at the end of sessions and helping to manage the flow of people through the session ensuring fair distribution of produce. Volunteers will have first access to the food available on the day.
All volunteers handling food are required to complete Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety certificate. This is an online course that takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete.
We are looking for friendly and approachable individuals, able to communicate well with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
They also assist with organising, hosting and attending variety of events.
