Driver (in Appleby for our Link Service)
Barnardo’s is committed to providing ‘Better Outcomes for More Children’. Our children’s services volunteers help the charity to deliver essential services in local communities, providing support to over 300,000 children, young people and their families. This role provides a great opportunity to join our fantastic children’s services and help make a real difference.
Barnardo’s Drivers transport children and families, using their own vehicles, to community groups, appointments and social activities, such as parent and toddler groups. Drivers provide a vital support to families who would otherwise be socially isolated and not able to engage in much needed social interactions and appointments.
We are looking for a volunteer driver who is available late afternoons into early evening to support transporting young people from Appleby to Pride in North Cumbria (PiNC) youth club which is run in Carlisle. Ideally, we would like someone that can commit either weekly or fortnightly.
PiNC Youth Club provides a safe space for young people who are exploring their identity where they have informal activities that change week to week depending on how people are feeling as well as spaces just to relax, socialise and get support and advice.
Not only will you be enabling them to attend a club that means a lot to the young people, but there will also be an opportunity for you to join in with the sessions supporting the young people who can become anxious and may need someone who they trust to reassure them.

We are looking for friendly and approachable individuals, able to communicate well with people from a wide range of backgrounds, with access to their own vehicle and a full clean UK driving licence. All travel expenses will be covered, all appropriate PPE and health and safety measures will be followed in regard to the current Covid-19 Pandemic.
